Second Battalion, Guadalajara Regiment

This evening I put the finishing touches to the second battalion, Guadalajara Regiment. This is the first of two regiments that is dressed in a mix of uniforms and civilian dress so that they can be used to bridge the early (1805-1808) and the middle (1809-1811) periods.

There were great to work with and it was a lot of fun getting the uniform/civilian dress mix just right. It involved mixing four sets from the Perry range.

The third battalion is painted but not based yet.

To finish off, here are a few shots from our  Cruel Seas game from last Sunday.

  1. I like seeing the mix of uniforms but especially enjoy the contrast against your fine work on the Spanish whites. Super work!

Will you be be retelling your Cruel Seas battle? Ships look marvelous.

    1. Thanks Jonathan. The next battalion (just finished tonight) has a little less white in it. The Cruel Seas game was really just a test run to understand the rules. We played two pairs of games, the first with just the small boats then the second with larger ships and submarines. In the latter I managed to get the liberty ship into port in England, but lost it on the return voyage!

  3. A great mix of uniforms and something I wish I’d done when I put my Spanish together, but I wasn’t quite brave enough. Beautifully done.

    1. In a way it is a bit like painting ACW Confederates, all that variety. The next batch have even more variety with coloured blankets across their shoulders. To get even greater variety it swould also be possible to add a few of the Carlist non-uniformed figures, but I chose not to, although if I had pretty much every figure in the three battalions of that regiment would have been different!

  6. Thanks Iain, although I can take no credit for the Cruel Seas models. I was merely a player in a game using another person’s models.

  7. That’s a very characterful looking unit Mark...
Cruel Seas is quite tempting... but I have so many other things to do... ;-)

    All the best. Aly

    1. Characterful and with a wide variety of hats...again. I enjoyed playing the Cruel Seas, but its not something I want to collect...I have enough land based horse and musket armies to sort out!
