More Poles

To almost complete my recent addition of some Duchy of Warsaw I have added some mounted officers and a regimental gun set. I say almost complete because I only ordered one model gun when I meant to order two, so one crew is sitting idle waiting for its hardware.

The mounted officers are from the Perry Mounted Commander set that represents Generals Pontiatowski, Sokolnicki and Dabrowski. Of course these three are far too highly ranked for my little brigade, but when has that ever stopped a wargamer...I mean how many times has Napoleon, Wellington or Blücher commanded a brigade on the wargames table?

The artillery is intended to be the regimental guns - repurposed Prussian 3-pounder pieces (a rather nice resin print too).

The second crew will have to remain idle probably until September or October when I place my next order.

Fourth Duchy of Warsaw Battalion Completed

The second battalion of the 4th Regiment is completed.

And both battalions of the regiment, with skirmishers deployed

This also completes the Duchy of Warsaw infantry, all four battalions.

Then with a bit of AI manipulation...

At some point I will add a gun set and a mounted command set, but that is all for now.

First Battalion, 4th Regiment Duchy of Warsaw Infantry

This battalion starts the second of the two Duchy of Warsaw Infantry regiments that I am doing. This time I have opted to do the 4th Regiment in the traditional dark blue uniform rather than the white of the 13th Regiment.

The reason for the choice is simple. This regiment, along with the 17th, had drummers with the French style uniform and the Perry sprue provides both types and by using spare drums I have from other sets I can make use of them and build two full battalions (with two skirmish stands) from one box and one command frame, avoiding left overs...something that drives me to distraction!

The second battalion is well under way and should be completed by the end of next week.

More Duchy of Warsaw Infantry

The week sees the completion of the 2nd battalion, 13th Regiment, Duchy of Warsaw Infantry.

This, along with the two skirmisher stands, sees the completion of the regiment.

And the two battalions...

A teraz coś nieco innego

Apparently that is a translation into Polish of "and now for something a bit different..." or so the translation app says.

I needed a change from things Franco-Prussian so I have switched to some Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw infantry.

There is a bit of back story here. A couple of months ago a friend was cleaning out and had two Perry Duchy of Warsaw infantry command sprues. I took them simply for something different to paint - maybe for a little diorama group to sit on the bookshelf in the study. Then when I was placing my last Perry order I was short of the value needed for free postage. I figured that if I bought two boxes and combined them with the command sprues, I could get four battalions...so I did and now I have on hand enough figures for four 24-figure battalions, plus four two-figure skirmish stands. There is no plan to expand this force - it's only intended as a brigade to supplement the French which are now seriously outnumbered by the coalition forces.

So here is the first battalion of two that will be the 13th Regiment which, according to the Perry painting guide, is the only unit from the Duchy to wear white. They also differ in that the grenadier seemed not to have worn the bearskin and the voltigeurs didn't wear a plume. A white unit also creates some variance from Duchy forces owned by another in the group.

About two-thirds of the way through the unit I began to wish that I had gone with another regiment with the blue uniform, that I think I like better, but I had gone too far down the road.

Now it's back to the Franco-Prussians.
