The Almeria Infantry Regiment

Over the weekend I have finished the second battalion of the Almeria Regiment in round hats from the 1809-1811 period.

This was a two battalion regiment. The first battalion made it’s appearance a week or two ago.

Also completed is the high command for the army. The general figure first made his appearance on these pages back in January. Now he has been joined by an officer, who was originally a standard bearer who was given a pointing right hand from the Perry plastic French infantry set and a map in this left hand, and a fusilier who was a free figure supplied by Eureka Ministures.

  2. Very nice Mark - particularly the command group - is the General from Brigade?

    1. Yes he is. He is a Paul Hicks special. So on that one stand are three different manufacturers.

  3. Lovely battalion and excellent command stand, the three manufacturers work well together I think!

    1. Thanks Iain. I like the round hats and need to do more of them...this Spanish collection is most definitely suffering from scope creep. I agree all three figures meld nicely. I was fortunate in that the standard bearer dis not have a belt for the standard pole, so the conversion simply required his arm to be bent straight and a new hand glued into place.

I am starting to have trouble keeping up with you...

    All the best. Aly

    1. That is 15 done to date: 10 for the early period, 2 for the middle period and three that can go either way. There is another one that will be completed tonight and then another 4 in the wings. I think beyond this there will be a NEED for another 8...not bad for a small army of no more than 12 units, eh?

    2. That’s very impressive. Any guards or Swiss planned amongst those left to do?

    3. No I decided to stick with the line troops, but it is tempting...

  6. Brown uniforms and black top hats make for a sharp dressed battalion. Nice! I like your Spanish officer in the last photo a lot. I have that figure but yours looks better...

    1. Thank Mark, but whenever I look at this unit I think of these lines from a ZZ Top song:

      “Top coat, top hat,
      ...
      ...
They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man”
