Mamelukes

This is the first of several units of Ottoman cavalry that will be making their appearance in these pages. And what lovely figures these are. They are also and great value for money because with all their flowing capes, these are heavy figures (probably double the bulk of a standard figure), but are still sold at the usual price.

One of the standard bearer figures in the command set has a full caparison at is based on one taken as a prize at the Battle of the Pyramids and in is display in the Musee de l'Armee in Paris (below that I photographed in 2018). Such detailed work is far beyond my capability so I have simply painted mine red with a gold fringe. Observant readers will notice the return of lots of red pants...an unintended consequence of painting Mamelukes.

I really like these figures and am keen to do more.

    1. Thanks Aly...They sure will look good when done, but with another big bunch of red trousered Frenchmen about to arrive that may not happen until the New Year.

  6. Great job Mark, they look terrific. You really can't fault Perry Miniatures for value, especially once the VAT is removed and with free postage. Their Ottoman range is expanding nicely.

    1. Yes that free postage takes a lot of beating. I looked at another range from Europe the other day and it was going to cost me $NZ84 plus postage for a unit of 24 figures, or a landed cost around $NZ 100 per unit and I would want 12 units. With retirement a mere 360 days away now I need to start watching the pennies!
