Ottoman Deli Cavalry

With my return from my hospital holiday I have finished the work on the unit of Deli light cavalry that I started before Christmas.

Usually volunteers of Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian descent the Delis were known for their ferocity in battle. Some sources state that the name Deli meant "mad head" from their fanatical approach to fighting.

  2. They look like a cross between bashi bazooks and mamelukes. The hats are very tall.

  3. Glad to hear you're back home Mark and hopefully all well and good with you? A fine return to your painting, which must have been nice after your enforced absence. Love the variety of colours etc and can't but help think they are wearing top hats with cloth wound round the base!

    1. Yes you are right. If I ever use the Ottomans against the Russians they will certainly have their uses.

  5. LOL, what did you do? drive home from from the hospital, walk from the car to the house, and then right to the painting desk??? 😁
miniatures look good. Glad that you have mended. Continue to take care of yourself.

    1. Not quite...I was at home for at least two hours before I picked up a brush...more or less mended, just need to take it easy for the next couple of weeks.

  6. Lovely work Mark, you have done them proud. Apparently the Delis were also notorious for raiding villages, but only carrying off olives, cheeses and smallgoods.
Great to see you back out and in front of the painting table again. I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been in hospital when you otherwise feel OK, but can't utilise the forced downtime more productively. I see the Perry's have released another tranche of Ottomans.

    1. Olives, cheese and small goods...sounds like my lunch. Yes 8 days of incarceration in the middle of summer was tough!

    1. Thank you. Dash and colour is definitely two things that can be said of this army. Not sure it will fight that well though.
