The latest addition to the Ottoman Napoleonic is another unit of Mameluke cavalry.
This is unit number six of Mamelukes, of which will be nine in total.
I hope sometime in the first half of the year to be able to mount a game based on the Battle of the Pyramids.
Colorful Mamelukes, Mark. Battle of the Pyramids coming up later in the year sounds great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan. I still have 27 more Mamelukes to go...running out of ideas for colour combinations!
DeleteBeautiful stuff Mark. When I saw the title I remembered you had done previous units, but had no idea you had completed as many as five already. When you stage the Battle of the Pyramids you should award additional victory points for anyone who hit the top of one, just like in the movie.
ReplyDeleteThankfully I have't seen the movie...I have to say that having stood at the base of the Pyramids, climbing to the top would have been a testing and exhausting venture! And the battle was actually fought 10-15 kilometres away from the Pyramids.
DeleteSo colourful, which makes them even more attractive as a unit:).
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve.
DeleteSuperb and very colourful
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil. I love working with these bright colours, but it really is a challenge to find new combinations.
DeleteWonderfully colorful, nine units is admirable as a goal. Coming up with colors, swap a new color in for one of the colors used already? The Battle of the Pyramids sounds like fun, looking forward to that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. I'm not sure how much fun the Battle of the Pyramids will be for the Ottomans though - in the real battle they list 10,000 casualties and the French lost less than 300...it could be a challenge to replicate that.
DeleteOof, yes the Battle is one sided, but you'll get such good photos!

Deletegood to see you back in the painting saddle
ReplyDeleteYes my brush hand was starting to shake from withdrawal after eight days.
DeleteGorgeous colors Mark, most beautiful Mameluks!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil.
DeleteShouldn't you be resting??
ReplyDeletecool looking unit though. The colors go well together. đ
Yes I should be resting, but I look out the window at home and see that the lawns are growing like mad, there is a whole bunch of other garden work that needs doing and the Christmas lights are still up...all tasks that I am allowed to do ☹️. Thankfully painting is something I can do sitting down. đ
DeleteBeautiful figures Mark, I like the Mamelukes as they don't really have a uniform as such. I have some as part of my French army, too many really as they were only a squadron attached the the guard Chausseurs a Cheval but they just look great on the table.
ReplyDeleteAs you said to Stew above, summer in the southern hemisphere means a LOT of outside work, at least you are not having the awful heat/humidity and rain we are having in Brisbane.
Thanks Chris. We are having it hot here too...not as hot as you...but the humidity is up between 95 and 98% and it makes it hard to get to sleep.
DeleteI cannot imagine tryiing to sleep in that humidity Mark without a/c, you have my sympathy. When we first emigrated to Australia in 1973 (Adelaide) there was little in the way of a/c and summer sleeping was fitful at best. Here in Brisbane, we have ceiling fans for when the weather is just bearable but this summer has needed the a/c on for 18 hours or so a day to be comfortable. sadly, no such comfort in my painting zone in the garage.
DeleteOddly I have only had problems sleeping on a couple of nights.
DeleteThese look great Mark - and colourful! I have just come from Stu (Dust Tears and Dice) where he was lamenting how "garish" he thought his Arab/middle eastern medieval infantry were - he should have a look at these chaps!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith...these chaps sure liked their colours.
DeleteAnother fine looking unit Mark…
ReplyDeleteThe Battle of the Pyramids should look quite spectacular…And an interesting challenge for the Mamelukes.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly. The Battle of the Pyramids will certainly be a challenge for the Mamelukes.
