Painting for a friend...

With the lead pile flattened and the chances of it being restocked for at least another three weeks being low, I have begun painting some Gothic fantasy ruins for a friend.

The first pieces I have done as white stone structures. Subsequent sets will be in brown and grey finishes, to give them a darker Gothic look.

And then there are some scatter pieces.

  2. Atmospheric results. Have you seen the sets of ruins pieces by Greenstuff World?

  3. Nice work Mark, and a definite change of pace. I especially like the scatter pieces, they remind me of that scene out of LOTR on Weathertop Hill. Did you put the best of The Cure on in the background to get you in the mood?

    1. Up on Ponsonby Road, near the intersection with Williamson Ave (if you can still remember the geography of of Auckland), there are some large pieces of old buildings sunk into the ground that don't look too dissimilar to some of that scatter material. Never could get into The Cure...a bit too depressing for me.

    2. I had to Google it, but I know exactly the spot you re talking about. Brought back some great memories as the flat we rented was just around the corner in Grey Lynn.

    3. So that flat must have been very close to Scanlan Street, the site of many a TTN party in the early '80s?

    4. Potatau Street. There were several parties and one with over a hundred there, and I was trying to remember just the other day who among the AWC crowd was there. The highlight was the felling of a 100 foot pine tree which luckily bounced off the roof before landing on a party of revellers. You wouldn't get away with that nowadays with all the H&S nonsense.

    5. And there is the problem with H&S...I bet that everyone of those people at that party learned from that mistake. Now we can't make mistakes so we never learn.

    1. It could well be GW scenery, as I understand it was picked up as a job lot on Trade Me (the local equivalent of eBay). I have just finished another batch in darker brown and grey hues, that look suitable sinister.

  5. I don't have any friends that are so good that they would paint for me. Conversely I wouldn't paint for them either so I guess that works out. 😀

Nice job on the terrain! The scatter pieces are certainly some old GW LOTR SBG stuff.

    1. Well have nothing else to paint at present you see...I have become bored with reading, there is nothing on TV or NetFlix that excites me and in the post-holiday blues I have to do something or else domestic control will find me some chores...

  6. Blimey I remember those GW ruins that I painted up for the club years ago. They were the 40K version IIRC. You've done a much better job than I!

    1. Thanks Steve. I have just finished some in darker hues which look much better in my view. I hope to be able to post them by the weekend.

  7. What FPW rules are you using? Looks like TDFG.
