Before my brief painting hiatus I started work on thus unit, completing 24 figures before the lead pile flattened. With the arrival of the last parcels the remaining 12 figures could join the unit.
It seems that in 1813 and 1814 the Austrian military establishment swelled considerably. Where regiments had previously counted only two field battalions, they expanded to three or four battalions. Often the fourth battalion was a Landwehr battalion. So this is what I have done here, established a Landwehr battalion in Regiment Froon.
Also completed with the arrival of the two parcels were two stands of the Second Battalion of the Russian Lieb Grenadiers that suffered from a failure to order enough command sprues with my previous order.
Great looking units, love the Landwehr with its superb green shades!

DeleteVery nice Mark and I didn't know about that fourth battalion for the Austrians. It certainly makes a welcome addition to break up all the usual white. I am halfway through 'Napoleon and the Struggle for Germany' after having read and enjoyed 'Napoleon and Berlin' a few years ago and it is interesting how long the Austrians held out before joining the sixth coalition, but I suppose when you had been thumped as many times as they were it is understandable.
ReplyDeleteThe grey made a nice change. Working on some Grenz now in brown coats for a difference. I have a huge backlog of reading. I have some leave coming up over the next few months, so maybe I can catch up.

Yeah it was a bit if a slow start…hadn’t touchy-feely a brush for nearly three weeks so I was a bit rusty…back to normal lace now…I’ll be back to a unit in four days in no time at all🤪
