This post sees another addition to the Prussian Napoleonic cavalry, the Elbe National (Landwehr) Cavalry Regiment.
In the orders of battle for 1813 these seem to be the most common cavalry types attached to infantry commands, so it was high time that I did some.
Given how common this cavalry type was in 1813 I think another regiment will follow at some point.
Looks great Mark, love the basing too.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I have settled on a simple basing system these days, one that doesn’t take long, but is effective.
DeleteThey look the part Mark. I read on another blog that the Perry FPW French are due for imminent release...guess that will take care of the rest of 2023 for you?!😆
ReplyDeleteYes I got the ‘press release’ from the Perrys yesterday for the FPW. French and the Russian uhlans…shame I just bought a unit of Russians in metal. The French will be on the menu after May and will be big (18 battalions, plus guns and cavalry) to match the Prussians. I hope some other releases, like Prusssian heavy guns and generals come out at the same time.
DeleteInteresting to know what role these Lancers played. Alongside Hussars I think these always make lovely units when seen on the table top. As always great painting and the touch of red on the pennants helps make them 'pop' visually:).
ReplyDeleteThank Steve. From what I understand theses should be thought of more like Cossacks than regular lancers. I will have to do a bit mar reading on them before they take to the table.
DeleteLook like business, especially if you're looking to get another unit. Nice brushwork as always.
ReplyDeleteI agree they do look the part. I think a unit with yellow facings would make a good show.
DeleteA lovely unit Mark and some great work on the lance pennons. They really do look like they are fluttering in the breeze.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, I do that to all my flags and pennons now, it gives them a bit of life and hides a multitude of sins!
DeleteHow you paint soo many miniatures and them being cavalry to boot is utterly astounding to me. and in Naps! where EVERYONE has fancy uniforms and fancier hats. incredible. 😀
ReplyDeleteUnkind people might say that it is a sad reflection on my life, but who am I to judge. But the I don’t profess to be a great at painter of figures, rather a creator of units and this allows me to do an average job on the painting and then dress them up as units…I find that a good job on the basing can cover a multitude of sins😏. And the Prussians (next to the Swedes) have the most bland Napoleonic uniforms of all. If you think my productivity rate is high, back in the mid 1980’s, when I did my original Franco-Prussian army, I was able to complete a full battalion of 28 figures in a day…my current rate is six figures.
DeleteVery nice Mark...
ReplyDeleteFor a 'bland' army they look pretty colourful to me...
All the best Aly
Thanks Aly… Dour may be a better term than bland. If I do another unit then I will probably go for yellow facings to give a bit more of a pop.
