Westphalian Cuirassier Regiment No 4

I have just read Aly’s report of his Boxing Day game and was surprised to see that the infamous Drinky the snowman failed to make an appearance. Then I saw this image and it all became clear to me. Having heard of the employment opportunities in the hospitality industry in New Zealand (bar work would be right up his alley) Drinky must have travelled South, but failing to understand that it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere it all ended badly!

On the last day of the year I finished painting the Westphalian Cuirassier Regiment, No 4 for the Franco-Prussia War army. Originally founded in 1717 the regiment fought in the Silesian War under Frederick  and was heavily engaged in the Revolutionary Wars of the 1790s. It fought at Jena and was disbanded in 1807. Reformed after 1815 the regiment was engaged in 1866 and formed a part of von Barby’s brigade in 1870. As 4th Westphalian Cuirassier Regiment, “von Driesen” it went to war in 1914 attached to VII Corps. It was disbanded in 1919.

    All the best. Aly

    1. And the great thing is that it is so humid here that his “remains” would quickly evaporate and would fall again as snow elsewhere and Drinky could reincarnate.

  2. Lovely regiment and very striking in their white uniforms. You really are having a productive break. Perhaps Drinky ended up in a few vodka and cokes over the Christmas period?

    1. Thanks Lawrence. The Cuirassiers are a bit better in quality than the dragoons in my view, but he uhlans that I started yesterday are lovely figures. No vodka old man…a Campari and soda us my preferred summer drink…

  3. Lol, I like your explanation of Drinkys absence Mark! The cavalry are very nice...they actually look quite Austrian in their white coats with red facings!
