Paraguayan Fortress Guns - Part Three

Following on from my post last month, I have finished the remaining three gun positions for the Paraguayan fortress guns. These three are the three bastion positions. I have made each one as varied as possible in terms of the types of materials used in their construction, assuming that the poorly equipped Paraguayans would have had to use anything they had to hand.

And all three together.

And then all five pieces together, showing how the bastions fit in with the two recessed sections.

These are the final pieces in the Great Paraguayan War collection. Now I am ready for a game!

  1. They look terrific Mark. Where did you get the gabions from; are they scratch built as well? It will be great to see the collection in action.

    1. I am really pleased with these. They came out exactly as I pictured them. For ten minutes I did think of scratch building the gabions - even built a jig to make them - but after the first attempt to weave the wire through the posts I gave up and bought the plastic gabions from Renedra. There is a chance that these lads will appear on a table next weekend.

    2. As Lawrence says, these guns and gun positions are superb. This will be a formidable force to face on the battlefield. Renedra. I need to keep these in mind.

    3. Thanks Jonathan. They should make for an interesting game. The Renedra gabions are excellent value for money.

  2. Fantastic stuff there Mark - Ruth has a mate up from CHC next Thurs - Sun, so fingers crossed she will be pleased for me to be out of the house as much as possible, including Sun 12th!

  3. I always thought that some hair curlers look a lot like gabions.

  5. Great work, per usual! Excited for your first game with this collection. Our group has gamed that war and the Paraguayans while outclassed and usually the losers, should have truly fanatical morale.

    1. Thanks. Yes the idea is that the Paraguayans will be out numbered, outgunned and not as well armed, but will have fortifications, more cavalry and advantages when charging.

  6. Well I certainly hope I’m not on the receiving end of those puppies

  7. Quite the gun line! The pieces really do work together, using the varied materials was a good choice to continue the 'lack of resources' theme. Having watched your work progress on these forces, look forward to seeing you battle as well.

    1. Thanks Iain. It was a rather fun build - just using whatever materials were to hand.
