This, the First Battalion of Régiment Deux Ponts, is the final unit I am making for this French AWI collection.
As tempting as it is to do the Régiment de Bourbonnais and the infantry of the Volontaires-étrangers de Lauzun (the only units of the French Forces in America under Rochambeau that I don’t have), I am resisting since I my original intention was to do four battalions and have already expanded that to six. On top of that this is after all really intended as a support force for the rather large American collections held by others in the group. But never say never…
Of course there has to be a parade!
I think these are the best if the French regiments. They all look outstanding but the shade of blue you used compliments the yellow and makes the figures stand out.
ReplyDeleteThat said the entire Brigade look magnificent. Outstanding effort.
Thanks Mark. The French were a nice little force to work on and are a nice addition to our collective AWI forces.
DeleteHope to see the, on a table soon Mark ....maybe on 26 June......?!
ReplyDeleteWon’t be the 26th…I have a prior engagement.
DeleteSplendid looking unit and a grand looking parade!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain, I agree it is a tidy force.
DeleteVery cool force, colorful and well painted. But someday you will paint those other French units. Because they're there to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. There is a third reason why I decided not to develop the last few units - space. The force I have fits exactly into a single storage tray and space is becoming a premium for me now - I need to slow down!
DeleteQuite the gathering Mark they look great on mass, loving the tunic colouring for the Deux Ponts Regiment.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks Stu, truth be known it was that blue uniform that drew me to the French, but as I got into the project the white uniforms were equally attractive…although white is a bit of a pain to work with.
DeleteThat yellow and blue combination reminds me of the Spanish Irlanda regiment. It is always a pleasing combination, and beautifully done. The parade looks great, and these pre-revolution French flags are so much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes I like that colour combination. I have used it in several armies - Spanish, Bavarian and Prussian and always find it pleasing. In a way it is a shame that the crossbelts conceal much of the colour. The standard for this regiment is particularly impressive.
DeleteA fine new battalion Mark…
ReplyDeleteAnd a parade…Hurrah!
That is indeed a lovely looking Brigade.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly. I really like this little force and look forward to seeing on the table…in something other than a parade.
