South American Church - Completed...and another battalion.

With the construction and assembly of the bell tower roof the South American church is completed. In due course I will complete a mission house and build it into a compound, but for now it stands alone.

Also completed is this, the sixth, Argentine battalion for the Paraguayan War wearing khaki tropical kit.

  1. Super work on both church and men. I really like the look of this Argentinian unit. Khaki with red trim and blue cap makes a handsome uniform.

    1. Thanks Jonathan. The kepi could have been khaki too but when I tried it on the first figure it just didn’t look right, romI reverted to the blue...maybe for the next unit.

    2. Make that “...so I reverted to...” don’t know where “roml” came from!

  2. The church came out fantastic. The miniatures are great looking. This is becoming a most interesting project.

    1. Thanks Mark. Yes the number of units is beginning to build up. i am trying to pull together an interesting scenario for a game now, but doubt there will be enough figures until November/December.

  3. The church looks great and the gold cross is a nice touch. The tropical uniform looks great and the blue cap is a nice contrast, adding a nice splash of colour to make the unit 'pop'.

    1. Thanks Steve. I think I will have to do one of the two remaining unpainted Argentine units in white tropical gear.

  4. That looks great Mark. How many battalions to go before you can put on a game, do you think?

    1. When I have done this current batch I will have seven Paraguayan, eight Argentine and two Brazilian battalions and that would be enough for a small game, but I do not have any cavalry, artillery or command yet. My plan is to add another three Paraguayan and 6 Brazilian battalions, plus five Paraguayan, three Argentine and two Brazilian cavalry units, and a number of guns to suit. Since all of our games are multi-player affairs a reasonable sized force is required.

  6. The church has come out really well, the cross finishes it off nicely and the Argentinian battalion look sufficiently campaign worn!

    1. And the cross was the simplest of things...two match sticks sunk into a blob of Greenstuff and painted gold! But you are right is does finish the model.

    1. In am pleased with the church although I was a little doubtful about halfway through. Another building in this set is under way. The next Argentine unit will be a white uniform, I think.

    1. Thanks Mark, although given the weaponry it is probably going to nearer to ACW or is it SACW?
