This six figure unit completes the Austrian cavalry expansion. It is small because it is using up the spare figures from the two boxes of cavalry that made up the recently created cuirassier regiments. As a small unit it will probably serve as an escort squadron or an artillery support squadron.
The completion of this unit also flattens the lead/plastic pile.
Nice work on both cavalry and flattening the Lead Pile. I am afraid I will never see that day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan. I wish mine wasn't flattened...
DeleteNice work Mark. I have tried using that Flash Gitz yellow, but it never seems to be as convincing as your use of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence. The trick with the yellow is two, possibly three, coats. On the helmet crests it is three drybrushed coats over a black undercoat...it's the depth that is the key.
DeleteYellow is a very thin pigment, so I tend to use a yellow ochre as the base coat, which means the yellow only needs a coat of two to 'pop'. White as an undercoat works ok, but again will require more coats of paint to look right. We used to hate having to paint yellow models when I worked, as it is a sod of a colour to get right and not look streaky!
DeleteI used the ochre technique when I did my Spanish Napoleonic and Carlist Wars armies.
DeleteLovely little unit, the yellow really makes the unit "pop", super work on them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie!
DeleteSuch a beautiful cavalry, cracking job Mark!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil.
DeleteGreat looking figures. Shame about your queue running dry, but your recent AAR suggests you will work around your current situation.

DeleteThanks Joe. There will be some more figures to paint at some point in the not too distant future.
Lovely work once again Mark. I often paint yellow areas white first, then paint the yellow on top, rather than on to a darker colour that tends to "shine" through....
ReplyDeleteI have done both Keith, but still prefer the black base.
DeleteA nice little unit Mark…
ReplyDeleteGreen with red facings is alway a nice combination… And the addition of the yellow just lifts it…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly. I would have preferred sky blue facings on green, but I agree the yellow on the red shabraque is striking
DeleteA very nice way to use up those odd figures here and there Mark:).
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. I figured if I bought another three boxes I could complete the regiment with leftovers...I actually entertained the idea for a few minutes until I remembered my guide for the year...no new figures...
DeleteBeautifully done Mark.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris.
