This week’s offering is the first of two South Carolina regiments I am doing for my AWI Americans.
This unit is the 2nd South Carolina Regiment. All of its service in the war was in the Southern Department with elements seeing service in Florida. The regiment constructed and garrisoned Fort Moultrie, named after the regiment’s colonel, that guarded the entrance to Charleston harbour and repulsed the naval attack by Admiral Sir Peter Parker (no, not Spiderman). Even today Charleston residents celebrate the defence on “Carolina Day”. Merged with the 6th South Carolina in 1780, the regiment retained its “2nd” designation. The regiment was captured along with the rest of the Charleston garrison when British succeeded in the Siege of Charleston in 1780.
The regiment supposedly had a number of troops in hunting shirts, which is what attracted me to do this unit first. Along with the 1st Regiment, it was apparently well provisioned and carried two silk flags, one of blue and one of red.
The blue overcoats makes quite a pleasing combination alongside the hunting shirts. Lovely stuff as usual Mark.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence. The uniform mix makes for a nice blend and a bit of variety on the poses too with one chap marching smoking a pipe while another is marching with his musket barrel down.
DeleteAnother nice unit Mark and the variation of pose and clothing is a nice touch
ReplyDeleteYes I am enjoying the mix.
DeleteGood looking unit, like the variation.

ReplyDeleteYeah I am pleased with them. This plastic set is one of the best from the Perry’s. I think. I am looking forward to expending this collection.
