Today’s post sees us back in South America, Uruguay to be precise - the butterfly is certainly getting around at the moment.
This is the second of three Uruguayan units, the Battalion 24 de Abril. I can’t find the significance of the name, although there is a locality in Montevideo by that name. Maybe it relates to one of the many dates of liberation in Uruguayan history.
I have done the unit in the white summer uniform.
As much as I like the correctness of the white summer uniform, I thing I will do the next unit in it’s more colourful full dress.
Mark, I like the look of the white cotton summer dress. Looks perfect to me. Offset by the blue coat/blanket roll, a handsome combination.
ReplyDeleteYes but the full dress has crimson trousers…hard to resist painting a unit in crimson pants!
DeleteTrue!
DeleteLovely work Mark and they do look very, well, South American. Especially the office with the green pockets on the blue uniform.
ReplyDeleteThose green pockets remind me of those blokes in the 1970s who had those plastic pocket protectors on their shirt pockets to stop your pens leaking all out all over your shirt.
DeleteNow you mention it he reminds me of an old English teacher of mine. He used to wear a plum-coloured suit to complete the look. People said it was because he was colour-blind, but they were probably just being kind.
DeleteI still have nightmares remembering those who used to wear a shorts-suit, tie, knee socks and sandal!
DeleteThat is a fine looking unit. I love how the white uniforms stand out with the blue.
ReplyDeleteNeil
Thank Neil.
DeleteSuperb unit Mark, lovely white and blue mix!
ReplyDeleteThank Phil. I agree it’s a nice combination.
DeleteVery nice Mark…
ReplyDeleteThe white uniforms are very attractive… but I have to agree with you about the full dress uniform.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, full dress it is going to be!
DeleteThese look great Mark - a nice change given so many of the protagonists in these wars seem to have chosen blue for their uniforms. Look forward to seeing the full dress though!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith. My schedule…you know I like my project planning tools…has me starting that final unit on November 18.
DeleteSuperb - yes, the white uniforms look very good. I think there's a wargamers' dilemma with this conflict, in that you want to paint as many different uniforms as possible (at least I do) but then you end up with a collection that has winter/summer/tropical/non-tropical uniforms all at the same "time". I suppose the answer is not to worry about it (like how there are a couple of Perry packs with the Paraguayan "early war tunics", which I understand were largely jettisoned very quickly)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Giles.
Thanks Giles. I have managed to do quite a mix of uniforms in the Argentine and Brazilian forces, with about 40% in summer kit, and then some of the full dress chaps have a mix of head gear.
