Fresh Paraguayan Recruits

just realised that I hadn’t posted for a few days…well a couple of weeks actually.

It’s not that I haven’t been working on anything, its just that I have been fluttering about on a number of projects and there hasn’t been much to show because everything is in various stages of completion.

What I have completed though is this unit of Paraguayan infantry. These are from the new codes in the marching and advancing poses that the Perrys released towards the end of 2020, and very nice sets they are too, with even more character and variety than the firing posed sets.

In order to get a truly random mix in the units I put all of the rank and file figures in a box and pulled out 15 figures. Then adding a similarly randomised selection of command figures I created the battalions.

This is number one of four battalions in this batch and number seven of the collection.

Next up, some more Paraguayans then back to the boys from Brazil.

  1. Those look superb Mark and a great idea of pulling figures from the pile to ensure a complete mix of poses, uniforms etc:)

I really like the colourful kilts and blankets...

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Aly. I felt the need for some colour in their chiripa. Even though most of the illustrations seem to show quite dull tones, I managed to slip a bit of bright blue in for some variety

    2. I agree with Aly. Loves the colors on the chiripas.

    3. Thank you Jonathan. I like the colours too, but the number of combinations of horizontal line variants with just three or four colours is restrictively.

  3. These look great Mark. One of the things I am starting to appreciate about Perry figures after all this time is how subtle the variations of poses within the same unit can be, but at the same time frustrating as when you think you have an approach to a unit worked out you pick up a figure which is exposing some piece of equipment which is not visible on any of the others. I love the way you have done the chiripas on these.

    1. Oddly that is what I like the most about the Perry figures. It is probably made easier for me in that I only work on six figures at a time so the surprise of a new piece of equipment is less disruptive to the painting order.

  4. I think this whole range is great, some of the Perrys' best work. I would love to fight big battles with these but I can't afford 28mm plus they take up so much space. So I get to enjoy these thru your efforts and you are doing a superb job on these.

    Thanks for the eye candy!

  5. Another nice addition Mark - I had been wondering why you had been quite for so long - its not like you to not be churning out a fresh unit every three or four days! I do something similar when painting the Old Glory figures EG the US 1812 infantry I am about to start on come in packs of thirty with five basic marching poses (although they cast head variants) - so I put them in batches and make up two lots of 15 by taking four of pose 1, two of pose 2, three of pose 3 etc - then add three or four command figures (which come in a separate pack of twenty figures. That way, all the units have a nice mixture of different poses in them!

    1. Thank Keith. I am still painting at my usual rate, but most of what I have been working of late is back filling existing units, plus finishing off the bases of the ACW figures, so not so ‘news worthy’.

    1. Thanks Stu. In a way I wish the marching/advancing poses had come out first...they are my preferred poses.

  8. These look so good Mark. Your excellent painting and basing almost makes them look like a diorama. A really fine unit.
