A Mixed Bag...

Two units have been completed this week.

The second battalion of the Crimean Turks

The first cavalry units of the American Civil War experiment. This will be what I will call a small unit and is mounted on its temporary base.

I even managed to get a decent sized Napoleonic game in on a boiling hot Auckland summer’s day. Since I organised and umpired the game, I didn’t take many images, included below. Thankfully my good friend Keith at Bydand Blog took a good number and posted them here http://1808534.blogspot.com/2020/01/game-two-of-2020.html

    1. Thanks Jonathan. The game was one of those where everyone won in their own way.

  2. Nice looking Turkish troops Mark....your pics from the game seem to be from the French perspective, which makes a change from all my ones of the Austrians attacking the farm!

  3. Totally agree with your comment re tha game Mark, I was certainly happy enough that i did as much as was possible against Ricks fortified farmhouse, and my allies both achieved respectable outcomes too, whilst the slippery French managed to extricate quite a few units so could feel vindicated too..although I don't think Rick felt like a winner!

    1. I did have to “adjust” the scenario a little. The original plan was that the French had to stay in position for six turns and then roll 1xD6 and that would be the number of extra turns they had to hold on. But when it became obvious that the French might just wander away, I had to intervene. At one point JL said to me “you said so turns.” I just said “I lied.” I made him roll the die when you engaged, on about turn 9.

  4. Plenty of toys on the table Mark...
    Are they all yours?

    All the best. Aly

    1. Yes a lot of toys, but not all mine. I provide some of the French, all of the Russians and some Prussians. The rest were either the communal collections of the group or other individuals (like Keith’s Austrians).

  6. I’m loving these Turks, and the ACW stuff looks good too. I enjoyed the photos of the Napoleonic gam here and had commented earlier in Keith’s blog as well. He’s not having a lot of luck with that iPad.

    1. I have just finished prepping the Turkish gunners for painting tomorrow and there are some wonderful figures in that set. Keith and I have had a discussion off line...most likely it is the age of the device...or it could be what is in support terms is known as a PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair).

    1. It was. It is nice to be able to present a scenario where every player has the chance of personal achievement...and all from a simple idea I had on the way to the venue!
