The battalions are differentiatedby the colour of the standard poles. The Frist Battalion pole is white, the Second red and the third blue.

4e Demi-brigade Légère
This week has seen the 4th Demi Brigade Legere completed. The first Battalion of this unit has been completed way back in January and the intention then was to add the other two battalions as a part of the French in Egypt expansion and here they are in the lovely green jackets with puce facings.

More nice work on these chaps, Mark!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nathan. I guess its bak to school for you tomorrow?
DeleteNice looking uniform combinations Mark - this early Napoleonic period is so much more interesting uniform wise, with both the French and the British having units in different coloured jackets, a variety of head gear etc
ReplyDeleteOnly one demi brigade to go now in the project. It certainly has seen some variations both in colour and millinery.
DeleteGreat looking French unit, that sapper looks like he's boiling up under his hat!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain. Yes I wonder how long the bearskin was retained.
DeleteMore colorful work, Mark! Are the flag pole differentiations your method of distinguishing battalions on the table or regulation?
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan. The coloured sleeve appears to be by regulation, but the coloured staff is my interpretation.
DeleteVery smart indeed Mark. The coloured staff is interesting, and is something I can vaguely recall the Russians doing around the same time.
ReplyDeleteYes you are right about the Russians and I have done that for my own collection. Mine are white and yellow - I think that is 1st and 3rd battalions...but can't find the reference now!
DeleteGreat looking toys...
ReplyDeleteI remember thinking how ‘cool’ this uniform look when I first saw it in the Osprey Men-at-Arms book...
I had a look this morning... it still looks cool😁
All the best. Aly
I agree it is a cool uniform. I have just one demi-brigade de bataille of three battalions to go now to finish the project. Seems sad to end this project of many hats and there was for one ridiculous moment the thought of doing all the units of both of the armies, but fortunately sanity was reasserted.
