Two more Paraguayan Line Cavalry Units

Started sometime last week, today’s post features the second and third, and possibly the last, of the Paraguayan line cavalry. It won’t be the last of Paraguayan cavalry though because two units of militia cavalry are lurking in little boxes in my study.

In one of the units have added a few figures in captured blue trousers and white shirts instead if red, just to get a little variety.

Next in the painting queue is a unit of Brazilian lancers.

    1. Thanks Jonathan. Sadly the Brazilian lancers do not have the same degree of colour...but there are more cavalry units to come...five more to be precise.

    3. Nah! I’m only averaging slightly more than one 9 figure unit a week at the moment...I’m pacing myself.

  3. Nice work Mark, I really like the varied poses which compliments a unit in mid charge.

    1. Thanks Nick. Yes there us a good mix of figures. The militia, that will be done some time next month, almost have as many variants, six plus the three command.

  6. Those are superb Mark! The attention to detail in the striped trousers and blankets just adds another level to this unit. Keep up the good work:)

    1. Thanks Steve. Rather like the French in the Franco-Prussian War the bright red uniform give the Paraguayans an apparent flamboyance over their rather dull blue-clad opponents.

  7. Lovely work Mark, and I especially like the figures with the leveled lances and the way you have done the grey horse.

    1. Thanks Lawrence. I am not sure how well the leveled lances are going to fare as wargames figures, I guess time will tell. My technique for greys now is a base of pure white over which a coat of contrast Apothecary White is applied, then the excess is wiped off the....a quick and dirty solution!

  8. Colour. As Jonathan said, that was my first impression too. I think it is the 'animated' figures, your marvellous painting and basing and those magnificent lance pennants. A joy to view.

    1. Thanks James. For my money the Perrys have always had the edge on animation in figures.

  9. Very colourful indeed Mark...
I do like all the pennants and flags... it gives a real sense of movement.

    All the best. Aly.

    1. Thanks Aly. I am a little doubtful about the robustness of the lances though and I am regretting not ordering a bunch of those Fireforge plastic lances.

  10. These are fantastic, Mark. Glad I'm not the only person attracted by this period.

    Best wishes
