The first unit is the 1st Battalion, identified by its red kepi (only the 1st Battalion and the Legion Militaire wore red kepis) and is in campaign dress.
The second unit is a line infantry unit wearing the French surplus “Algerian-style” uniform. Again they are in campaign order, that is with blanket roll and without epaulettes and pack.
Great looking uniforms and excellent painting, Mark!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan. It may sound odd but the figures are actually quite hard to paint because the uniform is so simple.
DeleteLove the campaign look, especially the second unit, which just appeals to me for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThere is yet another option in an all white, locally made tropical kit that may appear here soon.
DeleteNice looking figures Mark - these Argies look a bit different from the ones my mates in 45 Commando encountered in the Malvinas in May/June 1982!
ReplyDeleteAnd different again to those who faced the future heroes of the Peninsular and Waterloo at Buenos Aires in 1806.
DeleteLets not mention that debacle!
Deletethey look great Mark, and the flag is particularly striking. is it made out of fabric?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence. The flags are off the Perry website. I just resized them and printed to a high resolution colour laser printer
DeleteComing along nicely Mark and colours are popping. These are quite small battalions, is this characteristic of the Argentinians?
ReplyDeleteYes the Argentine infantry battalion establishment was quite small at 400 men, whereas Paraguayan and Uruguayan were 600 and Brazilian 800. So that provides me with wargames organisations of 24 figures for Brazilians, 18 for Paraguayan and Uruguayan and 12 for Argentine.
ReplyDeleteNice looking units Mark...
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the ‘Algerian’ uniforms... I think the light troops may have had them as well but with green facings...
All the best. Aly
Yes you are correct Aly, green facings indeed. They are next on the list...although I am rotating Argentine, Paraguayan and Brazilian units to get some variety s.o they may take a while to come through.
DeleteLovely looking Argentinians! They look great, I do like a rolled blanket look for some reason!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain. The blanket roll chaps DO look good.
