Cavalry and Artillery

The American Civil War expansion continues today with the completion of two Union cavalry units and the first of two Confederate gun sets.

First, a small cavalry unit...

Then a normal sized unit...

Both units together...

And the gun set firing...

    1. Thank you Phil. The plastic figures sure do give the variety of poses.

  3. More nice work on your ACW "experiment" Mark - the small cavalry unit really IS small! The gin crews are great - I wish the Perrys would do plastic artillery for other eras.....

    1. Thanks Keith. I want to try a game before I settle on the final basing. Maybe during my las5 few days of leave I can server a solo game. The plastic gunners are great, because there are just so many possible combinations.

    1. Thank you Jonathan. For this phase of the expansion total is 224 foot, 29 mounted and 3 guns to date. From memory that takes the overall ACW figure count to around 1600 foot, 150 mounted and 55 guns.

  5. Lovely work, and that is a massive collection you have there Mark. Is there much variation in ACW army lists as there is in Napoleonics, where you need to be painting a lot of different options which are unlikely to all take the field together?

    1. If you wanted to you could differentiate between early war and later war by a better state of dress, but I tend to work to mid-late war when both armies were pretty scruffy. The real difference comes with the eastern and western theatres where the Confederate flags were quite different - the traditional square battle flag was an eastern (more specifically Army of Northern Virginia) thing, whereas the western armies had broader variety of flags.
