The latest unit in the Spanish collection is this First Battalion, Jaen Regiment, with their black facings.
Again this is going to be a unit of mixed military and civilian dress, so the Grenadiers of this battalion have been given pants in a mix of colours.
Seasoned campaigners, no doubt. The mix of leg wear and condition is evidence of their time in service. Nice!
ReplyDeleteI am not quite sure if it represents the length of service or simply the fact that original uniforms were cheaply made and replacements hard to come by!
DeleteI like the campaign trouser look!
ReplyDeleteI resisted the urge to add full trousers, using green stuff, as I did for the last battalion, making the assumption that the battalion tailors were able to keep the grenadiers in reasonable dress albeit multi-coloured.
DeleteVery nicel. The green-striped trousers are my favourite. Not that I’d personally want to wear them, though.
ReplyDeleteTrue I couldn't see you in stripes...I reckon your are more of a plaid man!
DeleteWith a pipe. I must seriously think about doing that, if only to wind up the wife and children.
DeleteYou could really push the boat out and go for the smoking jacket and matching tie and handkerchief, topped off with the deerstalker hat.
DeleteAnother nicely "different" unit Mark!
ReplyDeleteAnd there is another one in the painting table waiting for its bases to be finished tomorrow.
DeleteGreat looking campaign dressed unit! Lovely flags too!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
And two more similarly attired chaps on the way...flags are by Adolfo Ramos.
DeleteLovely looking toys... it’s nice to see your collection of haberdashery growing so fast.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Off course I meant Millinery... or more accurately Military Millinery
DeleteThanks Aly. I am getting rather keen to see this lot on the table.
DeleteSpanish do look great don't they! Nice job Mark
ReplyDeleteYes I like them very much. They will probably loose every battle they fight, but they will look good doing it!
DeleteGood morning, I would like to tell you two errors in these figures, those are not the colors worn by the Jaén regiment, the color was dark blue, and the flag was not that, the flag is of the Aragón regiment. In this link you can http://flags.adolforamos.com/index.php?id_productś185&controllerśproduct&id_langśer the flag of Reg. Jaén . On this sheet you will see the uniform at number 30.

Best regards and good work.
Thank you Juan for your comments and the interesting links. When I went to paint this unit I had conflicting information on the facings and because I wanted to use it from 1800 through to 1809, I chose the reference for 1802 colours, that gave them as black with red cuffs. The flag is a result of an error in ordering...you will find that several regiments have wrong flags...an error I can live with.
