Since my News from the Front (2) has generated a bit of interest, I have added below all of the remaining images I took at the Gravelotte Musée de 1870.

    1. I had some time to do a bit of clean up on some of the images so I figured I may as well post them.

  3. Thank you so much. I am painting some of those uniforms in 30mm at this moment, an absolute gift!

  4. A nice collection of photos there Mark. There is an antique dealer opposite the Louvre where you can purchase a lot of militaria from the Napoleonic era onwards, and I always meant to pick up a few pieces when I was there. Your photos reminded me of that, and I must pick up a couple of pieces if and when I'm next there.

    1. Hmmm. Don't tempt me. I don't know about an antique dealer, but I did find a model soldier shop next to the Comedie Français with some stunningly painted flats and large scale models. I saw one beautiful 70 or 90 mm mounted hussar for €720. I purchased two unpainted 54mm figures for the cabinet.

  5. Looks to be a very interesting and well stocked museum Mark - shame we do not have similar institutions in NZ at Rangiriri, Gate Pa etc

    1. Yes it is a great museum. None of this namby pamby PC rubbish, just good old fashioned displays of uniforms and artefacts. The French 4lb gun was interesting... wargame manufacturers make them very much under scale.

    1. Thanks Aly. Her indoors has some shots on the other camera that is just too difficult to download here. When I get hold of those and have a chance to play with them in a better version of PhotoShop than is available on the iPad there may be even more photos.
