The inspiration for this house is based on these photographs taken of Froeschwiller shortly after the battle. Many of these houses still stand today, albeit significantly refurbished.
From these images I have made this piece, an all stone barn base with a timbered living quarters upstairs with a small courtyard and stairs at the back leading to the living quarters...I am glad not to live there and have to carry the groceries up those steps!
Building number four in this series, a much prettier structure, is in the final stages of construction now.

Amazing work, Mark!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan. The next one is nearing completion is is very pretty. The one after that will be pretty too, before returning to a more functional structure.
DeleteA nice interpretation there Mark and love those period photos too:). Sadly Blogger is still not updating Reading Lists/Feeds at present, bar the odd one, currently at least two days late on my List. Having contacted them about it, they are now aware of the problems and are trying to fix it. So don't worry if you don't get many comments, as the only way currently is to check each Blog individually:(.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. I have a habit now of looking back at the previous post on all the blogs I visit regularly.
DeleteI am manually checking blogs now as my reading list has not updated in 3 days and this one has come up trumps. Lovely work yet again.
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. Annoying as the RSS feed issue is, I am learning live with it. I am really enjoying these buildings and can see them being used in the upcoming Revolutionary War games.
DeleteAnother superb building Mark
ReplyDeleteThank you Neil
DeleteWooow! Another fantastic work Mark!
ReplyDeleteSuperb work, Mark! That Fröschwiller house looks fantastic—the timbering over the stone barn base is beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteIt'll make a brilliant feature piece for the table, whether for the Franco-Prussian War or earlier periods. Looking forward to seeing the next pretty structure in the series!
All the best, Andy
Thank you Andy, the first of the 'Chocolate Box' buildings is under the paintbrush now.
DeleteSplendid news, Mark! "Chocolate Box" is a great description—it'll be fantastic to see it come to life under the brush.
DeleteBest of luck with the painting, looking forward to the reveal!
All the best, Andy
It's done now and the next is about one-third completed.
DeleteLovely workmanlike building , lots of lower level stone rural buildings in Saxony/Bavaria that Im working on at a glacial pace!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain. Yes these can be used right though western Germany.
DeleteAnother lovely piece of modelling Mark, looks great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie...three more to go.
DeleteBeautiful work Mark. This is an attractive building so I'll be interested to see what the next one looks like.
ReplyDeleteThey are really fun buildings to work on. The next will be ready for painting tonight, probably finished and postedtomorrow...might show up in the blogger feeds next week!
DeleteUse Jons trick Mark - it seemed to work for me (and several others!)
DeleteI have applied it. We will see what happens when I post again tonight.
DeleteAbsolutely brilliant work, Mark.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray!
DeleteA great piece of work Mark.
ReplyDeleteI lived in a house with steps like that. The groceries are easy, it is carrying up the wood for the fire that kills you. 😂
Thanks Ben. I could see that the firewood would cause a problem 😁
DeleteAlmost like a livery or coachman's cottage. Really like this design.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai.
DeleteMore lovely work Mark!
ReplyDeleteJust finished the next one and it is a special one...
