Ruins...Yet Another One...

Another ruin has been completed on the work table; one more in the winter rural set. This piece had specific design criteria: it had to be able to conceal a tank (a T34 of T70), or a gun team. This determined the internal dimensions. The largest base is gun an oval 80mm x100mm and the T34 is 55mm x 110mm with a height of 45mm. So the internal dimension was set at xxxmm x xxxmm and the height of the roof at 50mm.

However, that 50mm height is 10mm higher than I usually use and risks looking out of scale. So to counter that height I created a slightly shallower pitch to the detachable roof and then added a 10-12mm 'skirt' that hangs below the gable and creates the illusion of a lower first level.

About halfway through build I started to have doubts about the design. It looked too big for a rural house, but I stuck with it. That said, the low wall, opposite the roof end, still didn't look right. It looked OK for a point of entry for a tank, but it's too low otherwise. To correct this I created a removable rubble pile that fits over the lower wall. If not used in this position it could be placed in the middle of the model or even in a street.

I didn't have any vehicle other then a PZII, but you can see what if looks like with a tank concealed - with and without the removable rubble.

Then it snowed...surprising since it was 29°C in my work space on Saturday...

The first two of the urban buildings  'end' pieces, textured in three sides, with the fourth left plain to butt against the row houses, are on the table at the moment. Also at the concept stage are several 'Gettysburgesque' buildings for the American Civil War that will appear as Buidings For Sale sometime soon.
