Down South of the Border Again

This week I have headed south…way south Paraguay to show a few more items for the Great Paraguayan War armies.

First up are the mounted Paraguayan commanders.

A higher command group:

And four brigadiers:

Then there are the three limbers for the Paraguayan artillery. For these I have used the Perry plastic ACW limber and to represent the level of poverty within the Paraguayan forces one has been painted green and the other two are in natural timber (replicating what I have done for the guns).

Also completed is the Uruguayan gun set and limber to round out the Uruguayan army.

These items complete the field forces for the Paraguayan and Uruguayan armies. The only Paraguayan items left to complete are four fortress guns that will sit in a redoubt. I have the gunners completed, but the fortress guns are still a couple of weeks away.

A unit of Brazilian Zouaves is waiting in the wings to be completed later this month.

  1. More nice work there Mark - this collection seems to be getting dangerously close to table ready!

    1. Yes it is table ready now - I was just waiting on the Paraguayan generals. The other items (the Brazilian Zouaves and the siege guns) are not a necessity for a game but would be nice. Just need access to a table!

    1. Yes the numbers are getting up there now. I am just waiting for my 3D printed fortress guns to arrive so that I can finish off the fortifications. I am trying to make something that can be used in several theatres.

    1. Thank Steve. I can’t see us getting together for a couple of months at least. Maybe but then I will have finished the fortress piece that I have planned.

  5. Lovely work, and the natural timber limbers are especially nice. I thought for a minute when I read the title that you had been on another trip to the South Island. Is COVID scuppering the gaming plans over there?

  6. There is no formal restriction that stops us from gaming, but it’s Barry’s place and he is in his mid-late 80s, so he has suspended games for now.

There was a discussion of another long weekend in Wanaka but the hotel we wanted to use is booked out right through to the end of March….then again her indoors’ birthday in in May…
