Today saw the completion of the fifth battalion of what will be eight in this Paraguayan War collection.
This is the first battalion that I have done in the all blue winter kit. It is not a particularly inspiring uniform, but it is easy to paint. To provide some variety I have mixed the headgear up a little.
There is another battalion in this kit making its say across the painting table now. After that I think the remaining two will be given some variety - maybe a mix of jacket and trousers colours.
The guy in photo #2 with grounded rifle and flowing havelock is inspirational. Great character brought to the fore by your brush.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is a nice figure. What you can’t see is that the variety in the figures is less than it should, because I foolishly ordered the chaos in fatigue cap instead of kepi, so I have had to convert. Thankfully I have a big number of spare kepis after doing the Perry plastic ACW figures.
DeleteI like their more muted, darker colour uniform as it makes them stand out from the more colourful uniforms already seen. They also look more sombre and maybe are tough hombres, or let's hope so on the games table!
ReplyDeleteI think all of the troops in that conflict must have been a tough lot...that war was fought in pretty remote and rough country in terrible conditions. I can harlequin wait fro the artillery and mounted officers to be released to that i can get these on the table.
DeleteGood looking unit. The winter uniform is a standout amongst the other troop uniforms.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are a marked difference to the bright red of the Paraguayans.
DeleteThe uniforms may be quite plain Mark but they still look good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith...at least they are quick to paint.
DeleteIt is a pleasant uniform to my eye Mark and I like that should of blue, with the red piping bringing it alive.
ReplyDeleteThe blue is just the standard GW Kantor Blue with a wash of Aly’s brown liquid. It gives a pleasant muted blue.
DeleteVery well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark.
DeleteA nice looking unit Mark...
ReplyDeleteBlue with red facings is an attractive combination indeed.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, but I need to with a bit more colour!
DeleteI have really enjoyed watching you build this collection- and the terrain and buildings to go with it. Will you be using any specific rule set? Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you John. The rules I will use will be the homegrown set listed under “Free Stuff” on the blog...although the version listed there is not the most recent version...must fix that.
