Half Yearly Review

At the start of the year I wrote "...I have only two projects on the books: a small expansion of the Russian Napoleonic infantry (half a dozen battalions of grenadiers) and the completion of the Franco-Prussians." But it didn't take long for a new project, the Austrian Napoleonics, to pop up...that damned butterfly fluttering around again!

The first project for year saw the completion of five regiments of Prussian cavalry for the Franco-Prussian War carried forward from last year. Their completion marked the pause in that project until the Prussian heavy guns were available (which they are now and are marked for working in September) and the Prussian generals that are due at some point "soonish" according to Michael Perry.

The Russian Grenadiers and a regiment of Prussian landwehr cavalry followed before the Austrians began to appear.

Six big ACW guns and a bit of work on some fantasy ruins has preceded the current FPW French work.

The raw painting count breakdown is: 565 foot figures, 75 mounted figures, 7 guns, 2 pieces of equipment and 32 terrain pieces.

Adjusting that for effort (counting 5 points per foot figures, 10 points for each mounted figures, gun or equipment pieces and 10 points for each hour's work on scratch built piece of terrain work) the results by project are:

In terms of games played I have managed ten, which is surprising really since I had four weeks holiday in that time.

So what does the next six months hold in store?

First up is a unit of hussars to finish off the Austrian Napoleonic project. There will be some Ottoman Turks much later in the year too. The main effort will  be the Franco-Prussians which, with retirement not far around the corner, will probably be my last big project...unless someone decides to make a full Franco-Austrian War range, in which case I will need to put retirement off another year!

  2. Very impressive output there Mark. The less said about my effort this year, the better...

    1. My productivity will continue this year, but will slump of next year with no significant projects foreseen.

  3. Great idea to do a half year review - fun to see the unexpected Nap Austrian project to slide in and take top spot :-)

    1. Thanks Norm. The Austrians peaked at 55% for a while there, but the French FPW will rapidly overtake them!

  4. Astonishing output, Mark! Not unexpected from your quick hands, though. Great job!

    1. Thank you Jonathan, but I note that in raw figure counts our respective totals are pretty similar.

    2. Perhaps, but mine are a lot smaller!

    3. They might be smaller, but just as intricate in many ways.

  5. An impressive number as is to be expected from your very productive painting desk Mark. Games played seems quite low to me though...I think you rarely make it along to Julian's on a Friday these days, and of course, he has been in Europe for the best part of two months, so there have been less Friday games available anyway...
I think I may do a similar count....but without the charts and graphs!

    1. Yes the Friday games are a problem for me at present. I work from home most Fridays so getting across town in rush hour traffic would take two hours and drive me insane.

  6. A great effort Mark, especially considering the trip to Canada and the weekends away in Queenstown.

    1. Yes it is a pleasing result considering the "interruptions". I have another brief interruption coming this later month with a quick hop across the ditch to SYD, but the FPW are a pretty straightforward painting project.

  7. Super impressive numbers of production. I’d be thrilled to have half that over a year period.
Though I don’t understand why the points system?
