Ottoman Janissaries

The second unit in the Ottoman force to oppose the French in Egypt, an Orta of Janissaries was completed over the weekend, but only based last night.

Again these are Brigade Games figures.

The next batch of Ottomans will be a little way off, probably as far off as September or October, after the French in Egypt expansion and a few more French 1812 units are completed.

  1. Lovely work Mark, and they look a fair bit different to their renaissance counterparts. It is still a very smart uniform however. Do you remember that fellow at Auckland Wargaming Club who had an Ottoman Napoleonic army? They were up there with the Spanish as most difficult to handle least likely to win a game, but he persevered stoically with them.

    1. There are some illustrations that show a uniform close to the renaissance types so I could possibly use some. I do vaguely remember an Ottoman army at the AWC and yes under the WRG rules they would have been a tough force to handle. Speaking of Spanish, they are looming on the horizon.

    1. Thanks Nick. The next units planned are some Albanians and some more Nazim-i-Cedid, probably in late-September.

    1. Yes they are lovely figures. I may add a few of the Renaissance figures later as I am sure some of the old costume wa still around.

  7. Splendid...

One of my first wargames armies were the Ottomans... not an easy choice but so very colourful.

    All the best. Aly

    1. I am looking forward to doing some more of these. The next couple of units will be some Albanians (for some more millinary variation) and another unit of Nazim-i-Cedid (in pale blue this time to provide some colour variation).
