A Bit of Re-basing

Devoid of any new figures to paint I have undertaken a project that has been languishing for some time, the rebasing of my older ACW cavalry units to the same basing system that I used for my more recent efforts (shown here

First completed are four regiments of Confederate cavalry.

There are enough figures left over to make one more regiment, but I don't have any horse holders for them, so they will have to wait for a while.

When finished I will have two full brigades (nine regiments) of Confederate dismounted cavalry.

    1. Thanks Norm I liked the idea of some skirmishing vignettes. The previous batch I made the horse holders a detachable base (held to the front by magnets) but I abandoned that idea for there guys. The Union regiments are done now, just waiting for their bases to be flocked.

  2. Normally I hate the idea of rebasing, but these look great Mark. A worthwhile exercise.

    1. I agree rebasing can be tedious, but it is a good thing to do in down times. I rebased all my Napoleonic Prussians not long ago and it took a surprisingly short time...no more that three nights if I remember correctly.

  3. Very nice Mark…
Everyone I know seems to have caught the rebasing bug…
Maybe it’s related to Covid 🤣😂🤣

    All the best. Aly

    1. OMG I hope not! If it became a pandemic the wargames figure manufacturers would be driven out of business. And could you imagine the severity of the lockdowns!

    1. Thanks Jonathan. All too often householders get left off the table in the heat of gaming. This at least ensures that they do make it to the table and that the investment is not wasted. The Union boys are all done now and will be posted later in the week.

  5. Very effective Mark and a great way to use your spare time whilst you await new orders. In my games I have a few horses that sit to the rear on seperate bases, to indicate that the troops are dismounted.

  6. God - you must be bored if you are rebasing, Mark! Just kidding - sort of! These mini diorama-like bases will certainly look great in action.

  8. Came out really well. I like the idea of having the horse holders on the same base. I might look into that... if I ever get any ACW cav. 😁

    1. Thanks. I think this is an effective way to display the horse holders without going over the top.
