I hadn't really intended to make the British Army for this war, but since the Perry Miniatures light dragoon set that I used for the British in Egypt came with all of the figures to make the troops in the later uniform, and since the Perrys sell the horse sprues separately, I figured why not.
Originally raised for service in India, the regiment served there though several campaigns in the 1790s and fought at Assaye with Wellesley. Returning to England in 1806, the Regiment saw no service in the Napoleonic Wars. Sent to North America in 1812, one of three British cavalry regiments to serve there, it fought largely in upper Canada. The Regiment was disbanded in 1816.
Is this the start of a new collection? Well who knows?
Why not in deed Mark, another wonderful looking unit.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks Stu. I can see a box or two of British infantry being added to these.
DeleteDynamic and perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil
DeleteMore lovely looking dragoons, different continent and army but still fab, mission creep?
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Yes a possible scope creep. Dragoons are a bit of a theme st present...I have two more regiments (in both mounted and dismounted form) waiting in the queue.
DeleteWar of 1812 British...?
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of interesting hat variants...
Go on... you know you want to... :-)
All the best. Aly
The problem is her indoors has some plans that may stall that project...mind you I can probably achieve a reasonable sized force with a couple of boxes of plastics and a few command sprues....hmmm thinking, thinking, thinking...
DeleteGreat looking unit Mark - they were on my "wish list" for the War of 1812 but now I wont have to worry about them - I think!
ReplyDeleteAnd they came up quite smartly too, with those pale yellow facings.
DeleteTo echo Stuart, “why not, indeed!” Wonderful looking cavalry. The Perry brothers have done a proper job on sculpting here especially the horses. The photo from the rear suggests a proper horses’ rump.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan. I agree these are nice. I also like the heavy cavalry horses, of which I have done well over 100 now (and another 26 are waiting in the wings).
DeleteJust two more regiments and you'll have all the British cavalry for an 1812 project and, since one of those is the 6th Inniskilling dragoons, it could then lead you quite nicely into a Waterloo project!
ReplyDeleteWith your rate of output it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility.
No, no no to Waterloo! Any Brits for 1812 will be minimal as there are others in the group that have big collections of Brits. I am quite keen on the Peninsular, but want to do the Spanish for this...and they have a target of September onward. The first Ottomans are on their way.
DeleteVery nicely done with the painting!
ReplyDeleteWaterloo would be crazy but so is anything Naps so there you go! 😀.
I am not a Waterloo fan really. My preferrence are the Central European battles from 1812-13.
