Buildings Preview

For the last three weeks I have been working on a batch of new buildings for sale. There are still a parts of the buildings in this batch to complete, but as a bit of a teaser here are some preliminary images. The full batch of seven items  is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

This French farm still needs an hour or two work on the main building roof and the front gate, but it's coming together nicely.

The main part of this batch is a series Middle Eastern / North African buildings. There are two pieces that form part of the bazar. They will be able to be used in isolation or together. Here is the first of those pieces completed. The second piece is still in the early stage of construction.

Also included in this set is a large rambling compound of four conjoined houses with a rambling stairway that leads to the roof. There is still a bit of work to be completed here.

Along with this batch will be three 15mm pieces that have been laying around in my study for 25+ years.

A week ago I spent a very pleasant couple of hours chatting with Ken the Yarkshire Gamer for his podcast show.

  1. Superb work, Mark! Are the 15mm buildings cast?

    1. The 15mm church and Mediterranean building are the original master patterns from a long defunct range I made back in the 1990s. The other is a casting, but the very first casting so it is super crisp...one of the best I made for that range in my opinion.

    2. I thought the sculpting style looked familiar. I bought a bunch of 6mm buildings at Enfilade Con in the late ‘90s and I believe they were from NZ/Aus. The Italian looking buildings were superb. I still have some unpainted. Do you still have the molds for these?

    3. Yes I did a big range of 1:300 models in the late 1980s. In fact I went across to a convention in the Pacific Northwest in either 1996 or 1997 and brought a bunch if these, some 15mm and some of our new 15mm tanks. If my memory serves me correctly it was held in Fife.

  3. Lovely bit of terrain work, I like the compact French farm,I'm finding terrain building therapeutic . The market looks good, a nice splash of colour against the rather more muted background!

    1. Thanks Iain. You are right, there is a therapeutic aspect to making buildings. I try to put something into each angle of a building that gives a unique view...simple things like the stack of crates in the market alley, or the cart with a broken wheel with its load of hay spilling out in the courtyard of the farm.

  4. Really lovely stuff Mark. They all look terrific. Do you still have the moulds for the 15mm range? I find some 15mm terrain just a bit on the small side for my liking, but these look as though they will be perfectly in proportion to even the larger 15/18mm figures.

    1. Those models are long out of production - probably for 20years now - and the moulds will we long gone. Once we started making the WWII vehicles I began to make bigger structures and the three represent a oart of that design change where the basic footprint was around 100-120mm square.

  5. Great stuff as always Mark.....I think I may have a copy of the very lat building amongst the 15mm stuff I acquired from Marua Road back in the day! Shame those models are not still available....

    1. That was one of a series of about six that I did for WWII in western Europe, along with a bunch of ruins.

  6. Stunning work there Mark and lovely to see some of those 15mm building too. I love scratch building, but somehow these days I can't be bothered when doing them in 6mm, as my shaky hand doesn't always play ball:(. Also they are pretty cheap and happy to help local small scale businesses that make them. At least that's my excuse;)!

    1. Thanks Steve. I would genuinely struggle working in 1:300 now, and I have problems getting the proportions right for 15mm!
