Still More Bavarians...and a Few Prussians Too...

I have finished the 3rd Battalion of the 9th Regiment, in firing line poses for a change.

This is the sixth of thirteen battalions I am doing for the Bavarian contingent. It completes the 9th Regiment as well as von Thiereck's Seventh Infantry Brigade.

The remaining seven battalions that make up Mallinger's Eighth Brigade will have to wait in the painting queue while I complete another batch of buildings for sale.

Also completed before construction work began were some Prussian generals and a second Bavarian general. The Prussians are from the high command set, supposed to represent Moltke (in the fatigue cap), the Crown Prince (in the pickelhaub) and Prince Frederick-Charles (in the hussar uniform), although I will be using them as generic senior officers. The Bavarian is the free Hartman figure that comes with the purchase of three boxes of plastic figures, but will be used as a brigadier and the divisional command will come from another source. I have to say that I am disappointed with these figures - they are not up to the usual quality expected from the Perrys.

  1. The firing line looks great Mark, and some interesting poses among that lot. You mention the command figures were disappointing but I can see ,much wrong with the finished article. Perhaps the excellent paintwork flatters them?

    1. Thanks Lawrence. I just found the command figures chunky and could see tool marks on the castings, like they were rushed.

  2. That firing line does look very good and a lovely mix of poses to make it look very natural and animated:). Sadly the Perry's range does seem a bit hit and miss at times, with some figures having loads of flash etc:(.

    1. Thanks Steve...hopefully the new French cuirassiers make up for the command figures...

  3. I do like the firing line figures Mark and like Lawrence, can't see a lot wrong with the commanders although I think you have noted before that the Perrys sometimes seem to lose interest when a collection is almost done, and juts "bash out" the last few figures to get it finished off?

    1. My only complaint about firing line figures is that they are often more prone to damage from handling, but with four bodies and six different sets of arms there is a lot of variety to be had? I just feel that the command figures lack something.

  4. A lovely firing line unit, great poses, they work really well. Nice work on the command figures too, they look very nice.

  5. Very nice additions Mark…
Although I like the look of a firing line ( Especially when they have puffs of ‘smoke’ in front of them) I tend to avoid using them because because of the higher risk of damaging them…
Although you didn’t find the experience of painting the command as pleasing as it could have been… you have certainly done a good job of ‘scrubbing them up’…

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Aly. My view in firing line figures is the same, although these are a little less fragile because they do not have bayonets fitted.
