More Winter Buildings

I have three scratch built Russian buildings in construction, but I am waiting on a stock of my preferred epoxy putty to arrive to complete them.

In the interim I have assembled and painted two Sarrissa MDF kits. Since they represent a more upmarket rural structure than I have done so far (maybe they are the homes of the local Party officials) they have a bit more colour to them.

They get the snow treatment all the same...

    1. Thanks Jonathan. The other three that are in progress are really nice, but I am still waiting for the epoxy putty...two weeks delay and counting...very annoying.

  2. Brilliant work there Mark:)! The snow really lifts the look of the whole, hiding all of those annoying location tages one gets with MDF kits. First World problems and all that, but as an ex-modelmaker, I can't help but see them all the time;).

    1. Thanks Steve, I felt guilty about applying the snow over the models, but yes it was useful to conceal those lugs and to provide greater strength to the cardboard roof of the green dascha.

    1. Thanks Joe. They are reminding me too as the overnight temperature is set to drop to 2 degrees C...not quite snow weather, but cold enough for me!

    1. Thanks Iain. I still find a bit of flatness to the MDF product.

  7. Beautifully done Mark. How were they to put together and paint? I have a few of these in store and was wondering how best to get paint to cover them with enough depth but without obscuring the lasered detailing.

    1. They are well designed kits so assembly is pretty simple - although one design flaw I found was with the red house the chimney is positioned directly in front of one of the upper windows. Painting was really easy. I painted directly onto the MDF and by thinning the paint down a little it didn't obscure anything. A wash of Aly's Brown Liquid helped to highlight any of the lasered detail.

    1. Thanks Mark. They are lovely kits and it seems a shame to dirty them up!
